Contributory benefit and travel abroad

Definition

For people who are receiving and are entitled to contributory benefit and wish to travel to countries in the EU, the European Economic Area, Switzerland or Australia for more than 15 days in the year.

Cases

  • If you do not wish to be paid benefit in Spain, you may benefit from your periods of Social Security unemployment contributions in any country in the EU, the European Economic Area, Switzerland or Australia. You will need the form E303.
  • If you receive unemployment benefit in Spain and find work in a foreign country. You may NOT continue to receive benefit (unless the period of stay does not exceed 15 days per year). If you return in under 12 months, you may start receiving benefit again if you apply for it within 15 days of your return and justify the period of work, using form E301 if you have worked in the EU or the European Economic, the form established for this purpose if you have worked in Australia, or a certificate from the provincial sections of Employment and Social Affairs of government offices and branch offices.
  • If you are receiving unemployment benefit in Spain and go to look for work in a country in the EU/European Economic Area or Switzerland, you may continue to receive benefit for up to 3 months, and in Portugal for all the remaining time of the benefit. To do so you must have been registration as a jobseeker for 4 weeks and register with the employment services of the destination country, by means of Form E303.

Presentation of applications

The same as for contributory benefit, with form E303 or Form E301, depending on the case. Applications must be submitted while you are entitled to contributory benefit, or up to 15 working days subsequent to the last day worked (Sundays and public holidays excluded).

Place

At your Work Office from 8:15 to 13:30 h.

Duration of the benefit

The remaining period for which you may receive unemployment benefit at the most.

Amount received

80% of IPREM (the reference indicator for determining social benefits).
