Kinds of teleworking

Kinds of teleworking

There are different kinds of teleworking:

According to the place

Teleworking at home

Teleworkers work at home. A part of the residence is turned into an office with the usual resources (table, telephone, computer, fax and Internet connection).

Mobile teleworking

Teleworkers don’t have an specific work place. They have a mobile phone, a laptop computer. Their work doesn’t depends on the place where it’s carried out.

Teleworking at virtual offices

The work is carried out from virtual offices. Teleworkers have remote access to the main office. It’s the same than working in the main office.

"Digital village" or digital neighbourhood

Extension of the "telecottage" or rural telecentre terms. Retaded to life style and preferences. A digital neighbourhood is a whole community addressed to life style and future jobs. All villages are connected and fully equipped (global network with boardband).

Teleshop

Business on Internet. Use of advanced TIC (like Internet) for selling and buying products or services, to enforce the relationship with customers and achieve distant markets without the overload of the presence. The concept is very similar to the electronic trade, but the electronic trade refers to efficient transactions like the management of an order. On the other hand, the teleshop covers all steps in the sale process, like product and services advetising on Internet. It also supplies tools to do orders and pay through electronic networks. The aim is to offer an online support and improve the customer relationship (by email or electronic communities).

Telecooperation, teleactivity

Use of TIC applications to enforce information, relationship and collaboration. Virtual team works are clear examples of it. Several persons collaborate to create a network with common aims. The usual flow of information is less important and communication barriers are overcome.

Kinds of teleworking depending on time investment

The main work is at office of the company but they work irregularly at home. This kind of teleworker has few technologic equipment at home.

A marginal teleworker is also someone who develpops a telework in an sporadic way because he/she has a traditional work.

Substantial teleworkers

People who work at the company and at home in a combined way. Regular telework. The worker has technological equipment at home. He is related to the company but in a different way. It’s like a customer-supplier relationship.

Primary teleworkers

Telework has become their main way of working. Sometimes the may visit the office, if they are not self-employed. They have all technological equipments at home.

Kinds of teleworking depending on the status

There are two work-at-home options:

Self-employed

The liberal teleworkable professions cover tasks related to the data and deep studies or design.

Employee

There are different situations:

  • Employees who have a traditional working day but, for personal reasons, they need to work at home.
  • Employees who practice the teleworking because the company requires this kind of work.
  • Mobile teleworkers: they usually travel for improving the customer services. They have a mobile office: telephone, fax, laptop computer,...(for example: politicians, journalists, consultants, etc.).
