Contact a company by phone

The phone is a very important tool. It can be very useful for:

  • Obtain information about companies and professional contacts.
  • Arrange an interview.
  • Follow the evolution after sending a curriculum or doing an interview.

We recommend that you prepare your phone calls. Note in a sheet of paper the things that you want to say.

Before calling

  • You must have information about the company name and the contact person.
  • Prepare the reason of your call. The introduction must be short (30 seconds maximum).

During the call

  • Introduce yourself and ask for the name of the person you are talking to.
  • Avoid subjects alienated from your professional aims.
  • Speak with an understandable voice and vocalizing.
  • Speak at an appropriate speed.
  • Use a positve style.
  • Take care of your vocabulary.

If the contact person is busy

  • Try to know when he/she will be accessible.
  • Don’t say that it’s a very important or personal subject.

If you want to get an interview

  • Give only the basic information.
  • Have your CV handy.

Ending

  • You have to be prepared to receive answers as: "we don’t need new workers", "you can call to another department".
  • You must collect the maximum information.
  • Say goodbye wtih kindness.
  • Note the interesting subjects during the conversation and next appointments.
