The non-verbal communication covers the things that we don’t say and our gestures. They are very important. The interviewer can have a lot of information in a non-verbal communication.
When there is an incoherence between the verbal and non-verbal communication, we focus our attention on the non-verbal one, because it’s easier to reproduce.
We offer you some ideas about possible meanings of your behaviours:
| Way of dressing | You must dress in an appropriate way, according to the job you are applying for. An haute couture shop requires a different way of dressing than a shop in a market. What is more, the clothes must be clean and without holes. |
|---|---|
| Hygiene | Very important refering to hair and hands and corporal smells. An untidy hygiene is easy to identify. |
| Shake hands | The way of shaking hands can influence on the attitude of the interviewer.Don’t shake hands in a lazy way because it shows lack of energy and decision. A humid hand produces an unpleasant sensation. |
| Facial expression | The face expression shows our mood and feelings, so your facial expression has to be in accordance with the message you are giving. |
| Smile | The smile is very important in specific moments of the interview because it means the overture of ways of communication. |
| Visual contact | Look in the eyes shows sincerity. |
| Corporal Position | You must sit down in a correct way. Don’t lean against the chair (you can show lack of interest). Nevertheless, if you lean toward the interviewer you can show nerves. |
| Hand gestures | during the conversation is correct to do several gestures with our hands but don’t do excessive gestures. |
| Peculiarities | Avoid the nervous movements (scratch the nose, touch the hair,... these movements show lack of control. |
| Chew a chewing-gum | We will never chew a chewing-gum in an interview. |
| Punctuality | You must arrive in advance to an interview. |
| Mobile | Before an interview, disconnect your mobile phone in order to avoid inappropriate interruptions. |
